Pine To Temporarily Close Fishing Pond For Repairs

For the anglers out there, Pine Township has plans to add new pipes to the fishing pond at Pine Park.

The construction, which will take place in the fall, will likely require the township to temporarily close the pond to the public.

Township assistant manager Scott Anderson said officials noticed a problem at the pond a few years ago after heavy rains caused a sinkhole at the pond's dam.

"So we fixed that temporarily," he said.

The township is now planning a permanent fix by replacing the dam's outlet structure with a new set of pipes able to better withstand heavy downpours.

Although the pond won't be totally drained during the project, Anderson said the level of water would be affected during construction.

The township has $177,500 budgeted for the repairs.

Anderson said he expects the pond, which is catch-and-release only, to be closed for about two months during the project.
