Patch Picks

Pine-Richland Patch is running a new weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.

This is where you’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends, and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more. 

1. DINNER AND SHOW: Kean Theatre presents Neil Simon's "Rumors" and dinner at any of Atria's Restaurant and Tavern's seven locations. 

Where/When: Kean Theatre, St. Barnabas Charities, 5847 Meridian Road, Gibsonia, 724-444-5326, and Atria's restaurant. The closest locations for Pine-Richland residents are the location at 5517 William Flynn Highway or the restaurant at 12980 Perry Highway.

Dinner and show: Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. Show only at 8 p.m.

Lunch and show: Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Show only at  2 p.m.

Why Go: The play's the thing and you can't go wrong with Neil Simon. Besides, you can do all this without having to drive downtown to the Cultural District. Dinner, a show AND convenience.

Pricing for show only: $22  on Friday and Saturday. $20 for Sunday matinee.

Pricing for Atria's dinner/Sunday lunch and show: $41 on Friday and Saturday, $39 on Sunday.

Where/When: ; Friday, 7 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: As part of its SweetJazz series, Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley will host a jazz, swing and blues singer this Friday evening.  The center will become a dimly lit nightclub, complete with appetizers and drinks, which is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy time with your significant other for Valentine’s Day. 

Pricing: $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event.

3.DRACULA

Where/When: Benedum Center; Friday through Sunday.

Why Go: Nothing says romance like the story of a blood-sucking, murderous vampire.  The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents this world-renowned ballet, set to the music of  famous Hungarian composer and pianist, Franz Liszt. 

Pricing: $20 to $90. Call 412-281-0360 for more information.

Where/When: , 4099 Grandview Drive, Gibsonia, 724-443-3011. The store is open 24 hours a day; the car wash is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: It's time to wash that awful salt off your car from all this winter weather driving. Besides, it's Valentine's weekend. If you're taking Cinderella to the ball, you want the carriage to be clean.

Pricing: $6-$10.

5.  

Where/When: Dunham's Sports, 200 Northtowne Square, Gibsonia. Open every day.

Why Go: You've got to be sick of winter weather and this place allows you to dream about spring things -- golfing, fishing, boating, tenting. We all need a little spring in our lives.

Pricing: Depends on what you're buying.
