New Wexford Restaurant Makes Offer It Hopes Diners Won't Refuse

When North Hills restaurateur Mark Baranowski was looking for inspiration for his next venture, he turned to the movies.

A fan of films about the gangsters from the 1920s, he came up with which opened Feb. 15 in the Pine Tree Shoppes, 12087 Perry Highway in Wexford. 

The site had been home to the Blue Water Tavern.

“When Mark took over, he gutted the restaurant and redid everything,” said Bonnie & Clyde’s General Manager Katie Malone.

“He loves the gangster theme, he even bought a replica of the infamous duo’s getaway car, a 1937 Cadillac, which is now parked outside the restaurant.”   Inside the white sedan sits a mannequin, appearing to be waiting for his accomplice to join him. 

Baranowski owns the North Park Lounge restaurants in McCandless and Cranberry and the Cabana Bar in Wexford, but Bonnie & Clyde’s is different. 

“He wanted to try something new,” said Malone. “He wanted the food to be a bit more upscale, with a modern décor, a nice atmosphere, and entertainment in the evenings.”  

The restaurant website labels itself as part restaurant and part nightclub. Bonnie & Clyde’s features disc jockeys now, but plans to add live entertainment in the coming weeks. There is also a small dance floor for diners who want to work off their meals, a private dining room and an indoor/outdoor bar. 

Baranowski hired Malone and head chef Dan Rammel, who both worked previously at the Springfield Grille in Mars. Rammel’s menu of steaks, chops, seafood and pastas includes many references to organized crime including “Tommy ‘Mussels’ Malone,” “Stuffed ‘Joe Bonanno’ Peppers,” and a variety of “Wise Guy” pastas. 

Bonnie & Clyde’s is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
