Honoring Maria: Pine-Richland Lacrosse, Community Donates More than $9,400 in Name of Student Battling Cancer

The money went to the HEADstrong Foundation in honor of Maria Ciarrocca.

The Pine-Richland Lacrosse organization has tallied up the numbers and found community was able to raise and donate $9,446 to the HEADstrong Foundation in honor of Pine-Richland High School student

In April, the PRHS Boys Lacrosse, PRHS Girls Lacrosse, PR Youth Girls Lacrosse and PR Youth Boys Lacrosse teamed up with the community to host a special event during the varsity and junior varsity lacrosse games at Pine-Richland Stadium.

Many Pine-Richland booster groups and local businesses also donated their time and/or thousands of dollars worth of items for raffles during the event, according to PRHS Boys Youth Lacrosse Booster President Barbara Young.

Wearing green, the community packed the stadium April 12 as the Rams took on Bethel Park.

The PR Lacrosse community also hosted a raffle and sold Gatorade as well as Pine-Richland and HEADStrong apparel at the game. In all, organizers sold $5,059 worth of items in support of the cause.

The HEADstrong Foundation is a non-profit organization that advocates, fundraises and supports those affected by blood cancers and those working towards eliminating it.

A junior at Pine-Richland, Maria was diagnosed with leukemia earlier in the school year. She began chemotherapy shortly after Thanksgiving.
