Grab & Go Kids Planner: Every Day Is a Parade O' Fun

Irish [and non-Irish] eyes will be smiling at this week's lineup of activities.

March is roaring in with a lion's share of fun family events.  Try taking in a parade, a movie, an ice-skating show or a high school musical.  Be sure to keep up your family's energy level with a hearty pancake breakfast!

Seneca Valley All School Musical – "Little Shop of Horrors"

Where/When: Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, Friday & Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: It’s high school musical season, and the students at Seneca Valley are kicking it off with a production of one of off-Broadway’s most beloved shows – "Little Shop of Horrors." A spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies, it tells the tale of Audrey II, an exotic plant with a craving for blood. This musical is a good bet for families with older children.

All You Can Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast

Where/When: ’s social hall at 5857 Meridian Road, Richland Township; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

Why Go: Kids and pancakes go together like hide and seek.  Fill your kids’ rumbly tummies while supporting a good cause at this all-you-can-eat breakfast featuring regular and buckwheat pancakes served with heaping sides of sausage, cinnamon apples and beverages.

Mighty Movie Monday

Where/When: Cranberry Cinemas, Monday at 2:20 p.m., 4:40 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. 

Why Go: Going to the movies can be an expensive proposition for families.  But on Mighty Movie Mondays, tickets to all shows are just $5 – plus you get a free small popcorn. Take the kids to see "Rango," a cartoon Western about a chameleon with an identity crisis.  The always-entertaining Johnny Depp is the voice of Rango.

Cost: $5

Ice-Skating Show

Where/When: , Monday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Allegheny County Parks Department’s annual ice skating show is a charming way for young ice-skating enthusiasts to spend an evening.  The show offers skaters who have taken lessons from parks department instructors the opportunity to show off their new skills in a show complete with costumes and music.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Where/When: Downtown Pittsburgh beginning at the Greyhound Bus Station and proceeding along Grant Street and the Boulevard of the Allies and ending at Commonwealth Place, Saturday at 10 a.m.

Why Go: You don’t have to be Irish to get your kids’ eyes smiling.  Just take them to this Pittsburgh tradition that features marching bands, floats, local celebrities and Irish dancers.  Extend the fun by heading to Fifth Avenue Place after the parade for a full lineup of children’s activities, including face painting, Irish crafts, music and dancing.
