Get Out Weekend Planner: Wexford Fire Station Tour, "Les Mis" and Maple Time

Touring the Wexford Volunteer Fire Co.'s new station near the Village at Pine is just one of the options for this weekend.

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, here is what we recommend.

1. Open house at ’s brand new fire station.

When/Where: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wexford Volunteer Fire Co.'s station, 228 North Chapel Drive, Wexford.

Why go: To tour the station, see demonstrations of the equipment, let the kids sit in the fire trucks and to meet and thank the men and women who volunteer to protect our area. You can also learn about volunteer opportunities. Bring the kids – firefighters will be handing out fire safety activity bags.

2. Final weekend of performance

If you missed the Pine- Richland High School spring musical last weekend, you are going to want to catch it this weekend!

When/ Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. matinee and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; , 700 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia.

Why go: Pine-Richland High School students are amazing in this production of "Les Miserables." 

Price: $12 for adults; $10 for students, seniors and balcony seats.

3. Spaghetti and Meatballs Dinner

If you are heading out to the Pine-Richland musical, why not turn it into an entire evening with a delicious dinner as well? Or just go for dinner.

When/Where: 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The Pine-Richland Choral Boosters are hosting a dinner including spaghetti with meatballs, tossed salad, bread, beverage and dessert at the Pine-Richland High School, 700 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia.

Why go: The food is delicious, it will be easy to make it to the show and it is a good cause.

Price:  $8 for adults; $6 for students and senior citizens; $4 for children ages 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the PRHS's “Les Miserables” box office or by contacting Camille Barrett at 724-687-9030 or cbspaghetti@gmail.com. Advanced tickets are recommended.

4. Local Legends

Are you curious about local legends? Do you wonder if Bigfoot has been sighted in North Park? It's time to learn through the "Curious Learners: Local Legends" program, which is for children ages 7 and up and curious adults.

When/Where:  10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Northern Tier Library, 4015 Dickey Road, Gibsonia. 

Why go: It is always fun to learn more about your local area, and you will be a whiz at cocktail party talk.

Price: Free but registration is required at northerntierlibrary.org  or call 724-449-2665.

5. Maple Madness!

March Madness takes on a new meaning at Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania’s Beechwood Farms with Maple Madness! Learn all about how maple syrup is harvested and cooked while on a nature walk at Beechwood Farms, then enjoy a delicious pancake meal with real maple sugar.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; Beechwood Farms, 614 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh.

Why go: Enjoy being outdoors at the beautiful Beechwood Farms and learn about nature. Plus you get a great meal.

Price: $6 for Audubon of Southwestern Pennsylvania members; $10 for non-members; free for children under 2.  Reservations requested at 412-963-6100 or http://www.aswp.org.
