Get Out Weekend Planner: Prom Walk, Trunk Sale & More

For $10, you can get your pet vaccinated for rabies at the Richland Community Park Barn.

When/Where: 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at Pine-Richland High School, 700 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia 

Why go: It’s time to watch all the wonderful students at Pine-Richland High School in their finest as they show off their prom wear before the actual prom at Heinz Field. The event is sponsored by the freshman class and the theme for the prom is "City of Lights."

2. May Mart

When/Where: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, , corner of Route 8 and Dickey Road in Gibsonia.

Why go: It is a great chance to buy used housewares, clothing, toys and more at good prices. There will also be a flower and plant sale plus homemade soup and baked goods. All proceeds will benefit the Lighthouse Food Bank.

Price: Free, but take your money for treasures and more.

3. Seventh Annual Community Trunk Sale

When/Where: 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 14, at the 4019 Dickey Road, Gibsonia. 

Why go: Another great sale to pick up some bargains.

Price: Free, but again, don’t forget your cash.

4. Attention dog and cat lovers: Get your pet vaccinated for rabies this weekend. 

When/Where: 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the , 1049 Van Velsor Drive, Bakerstown. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier. Pets should be at least three months old.

Why go: All dogs in Allegheny County must have current rabies vaccinations.

Price: $10 per animal.

5. The Case of the Missing Library Book -- There is no school on Friday, so why not have the kids go on a crime-solving adventure?

When/Where: 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at the , 4015 Dickey Road, Gibsonia.

Why go: This is a fun way to keep children ages 8 and up busy as they use logic and detecting skills to find the missing library book.

Price: Free, but please pre-register online or at 724-449-2665.

6. Dan Wagner Memorial Kid's Fishing Derby for children ages 2 to 12.

When/Where:  7 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Rochester Shelter located between the Boathouse and tennis courts. At noon, prizes will be awarded and a picnic lunch will be served.

Why go: After solving a mystery on Friday (see No. 5) , kids can go fishing on Saturday. It's a great chance to fish and spend some time outdoors.

Price: Free.

7. Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon -- It’s too late to register (and train), but you can cheer runners on along the course route and enjoy the party atmosphere. There will be other events during the weekend in addition to the race.

When/Where:  7 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, starting at 6th Street and Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh. Click here for the course route.

Why go: The Marathon is Pittsburgh’s biggest running event and has become a favorite for residents as a “party” event.
