Five Ways to Honor 9/11 Victims in Pine-Richland

The holiday is observed each year in honor of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Americans across the country will observe Patriot Day in honor of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Here are five ways you can observe it in and around Pine-Richland:

1. Cranberry Township Memorial Ceremony

Cranberry Township Public Safety services are hosting a ceremony Wednesday to honor 9/11 first responders and victims.

The ceremony will be at Park Fire Station on Route 19, where the fire company erected a memorial of old debris last year from the World Trade Center on the same site.

The fire company will raise the American flag from its tower truck on at 6 a.m. Firefighter John Pristas will play taps during the times each plane crashed as well as the times the World Trade Center buildings fell.

2. Flag Retirement and Remembrance Ceremony 

Allegheny County is hosting a flag retirement and remembrance ceremony in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The free event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the North Park Flag Retirement Plaza.

3. Patriotic Concert

Enjoy patriotic and country songs in honor of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 with emerging star Kevin Dale. The Courtyard Concert Series with Kevin Dale takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard.

4. Flags at Half-Staff

On Sept. 11, a Presidential Proclamation orders that all American flags be flown at half-staff at individual homes, businesses, U.S. government buildings and the White House. 

5. Moment of Silence

As part of the proclamation for Patriot Day, the President calls upon citizens to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The moment of silence marks the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
