Patch has put together a list of Lenten fish fry events close to the Pine-Richland community.

The Catholic tradition of not eating meat on Fridays in Lent has produced a tradition of fish fry events open to hungry people of any religious background.

Where are the fish fry events that are convenient to residents of the Pine-Richland community?

Below is a listing of where and when you can purchase dinners and sandwiches — whether you're observing Lent or just looking for a delicious meal.

  • Where: 201 Church Road, Wexford.
  • When: 4:30-7:30 p.m. every Friday during Lent. 
  • About: Your choice of entrée includes breaded, fried shrimp or baked Atlantic cod or breaded, fried Atlantic cod. This can be requested as a sandwich. Also includes your choice of New England clam chowder or Tomato Florentine soup, a side of macaroni and cheese, french fries or baked potato and a choice of either applesauce or coleslaw. Price also includes a beverage. All items also are available a la carte and individually priced. There also is a dessert buffet featuring items made by school and parish families for a small donation.
  • Prices: Adult meals are $9, children's meals are $2. 
  • Options: Dine-in and takeout available. To order, call 724-759-8659 or 412-304-1254 after 1 p.m. on Fridays. Make sure to specify your pickup time. 

St. Alexis

  • Where: 10090 Perry Highway, Wexford.
  • When: 4:30-7:30 p.m. every Friday in Lent except Good Friday.
  • About: Diners have a choice of baked cod or “King Cod” (fresh battered fried fish), two side dishes (pierogies, scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce or macaroni and cheese), rolls, choice of dessert from a selection of homemade desserts and drinks, 
  • Prices: $8.50 for adults, $5.50 for children under 10. Children under 3 are free. Sandwich is $6.
  • Options: Dine-in and takeout available. To order, call 724-401-1FRY after 3:30 p.m., or online ordering at stalexis.org.

  • Where: 2535 Rochester Road in Cranberry in the church’s Oldenski Hall.
  • When: 4 p.m-7:30 p.m. every Friday in Lent.
  • About: Baked or fried fish dinners are $8.50 and include an 8-ounce cod, french fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw or applesauce. The child’s fried-fish dinner is $6.50 and includes a 4-ounce cod, french fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw or applesauce. The pizza dinner is $4.50 and includes a slice of cheese pizza and french fries or macaroni and cheese. The cost for a fish sandwich with fries is $6.50. A beverage and dessert come with the dinners. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the church’s building campaign.
  • Prices:  $8.50 for adult meal, $6.50 for child's fish dinner, $4.50 for pizza dinner, $6.50 for fish sandwich and fries.
  • Options: Dine-in and takeout available.

St. Kilian Parish

  • Where: 7076 Franklin Road in Cranberry.
  • When: 4 p.m-8 p.m. in the cafeteria every Friday through March 30.
  • About:  Entrée choices include hand-breaded fried cod, fish sandwich, baked cod or fried shrimp. Your choice of two sides includes pierogies, french fries, coleslaw and applesauce. Tomato Florentine soup and a beverage are included with your entrée. A child’s dinner includes a choice of hand-breaded fried cod, fried shrimp or cheese pizza. Diners may choose two side choices from french fries, coleslaw, applesauce or macaroni and cheese. The price includes a beverage. 
  • Prices: Adult dinners are $10, and senior citizens eat for $8. Child's dinner is $5. Attendees may enter a raffle for a fishing charter. The cost is $25 per ticket.
  • Options: Dine-in and take-out available. Place your takeout order online any time from the Saturday prior to the fish fry until 7 p.m. on the day of the fish fry by visiting http://fishfry.saintkilian.org. Call in your order at 724-625-1665, ext. 9. Call after 2 p.m. on Fridays for a pickup after 4 p.m.

Zelienople Memorial Skate Park Fish Fry

  • Where: Zelienople American Legion Hall at 308 West New Castle St. in Zelienople.
  • When: 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Fridays in Lent.
  • About: Dinners include a large piece of deep-fried cod, a large hoagie roll, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, a beverage and dessert. There will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffles at the dinners. Proceeds from the event benefit the Zelienople Memorial Skate Park, which will honor the memory of Zelienople firefighters  All three teens, who were students, drowned two years ago after the sport-utility vehicle in which they were riding went out of control and rolled upside down into an icy pond near the Zelienople-Harmony Sportsmen’s Club.
  • Prices: Dinner donations of $10 are suggested for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. 
  • Options: Dine-in and takeout available.
  • Where: 2 West Beaver St. in Zelienople.
  • When: 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Fridays through March 30.
  • About: Entrée choices include a fried 8-ounce cod or a 6-ounce baked cod, fried fish sandwich or fried shrimp. Add three shrimp to your fish dinner for the combo dinner for an additional $2. Choices for children's meals include pizza and the children’s fish dinner, which come with half a fried fish or half a shrimp order. All entrees come with your choice of two sides, including french fries, baked potato, macaroni and cheese or vegetable. Also included in the price are coleslaw, dinner roll and a dessert. There is a choice of beverage for those eating in.
  • Prices: The cost is $9 for adults and $7 for senior citizens. The cost is $5 for children ages 4 to 10. Children younger than age 3 eat for free. 
  • Options: Dine-in and takeout available. Called 724-452-8010 after 3:30 p.m. for takeout. Pick up your orders at the St. Gregory school concession stand.

  • Where: 7 Chalfonte Avenue, West View.
  • When: 3:30-7 p.m. Good Friday only, April 6, in the social hall.
  • About: The fish fry includes a fish sandwich, french fries, choice of coleslaw or applesauce, beverage and dessert. 
  • Price: Not available as of Feb. 21. Check church bulletin at end of March. 
  • Options: Takeout is available. No calling ahead. Stand in line and pay on site. 

  • Where: 311 Siebert Road, Ross Township. Dinner will be served in the Vincentian hall (school cafeteria). Enter through the front door of the school.
  • When: 4:30-7 p.m. every Friday during Lent except Good Friday.
  • About: Choice of baked cod or fried cod, vegetables, choice of assorted salads, french fries or mac and cheese, potato pancakes or pierogies, rolls and buttter and a beverage. 
  • Prices: Dinners are $9 for adults and $4 for children. Children younger than 5 eat free. Sandwiches are $6. 
  • Options: Takeout is available. Call after 3 p.m., 412-364-8999, or order online. Pickup begins at 4 p.m.

  • Where: Schoppol Hall, 1000 Avila Court, Ross Township. 
  • When: 4:30-7:30 p.m. every Friday except for Good Friday, when it will be 3:30-6:30 p.m.
  • About: Dinner includes baked cod, friend cod, fried shrimp, and shrimp scampi with fresh-cut french fries, baked potato or mac and cheese and choice of cole slaw or applesauce, clam chowder or tomato florentine. Bread and drink included for dine-in customers. 
  • Cost: Dinners are $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-10. Free for children younger than 5. Sandwiches are $6. A la carte menu is available. 
  • Options: Takeout is available by calling 412-367-9001, ext. 506.

St. Alexis Catholic Church

  • Where: School cafeteria, 10090 Old Perry Highway, Wexford.
  • When: 4:30-7:30 p.m. every Friday.
  • About: Dinner includes your choice of baked or the King Cod, a new fresh-battered fried fish and two side dishes (pierogies, scalloped potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, applesauce or mac and cheese), fresh rolls, choice of homemade dessert and drink. 
  • Price: Dinners are $8.50 for adults; $5.50 for children under 10 and free for children under age 3. Sandwich is $6. Sides are also available a la carte. 
  • Option: Takeout is available.

 

St. Peter Parish

  • Where: Our Lady Queen of Peace church hall at 907 Middle St., North Side.
  • When: 3:30-6:30 p.m. every Friday during Lent.
  • About: Dinner includes your choice of fried or baked fish, salmon cakes or crab cakes, with noodles or cabbage, baked macaroni or french fries with choice of vegetable, roll, dessert and hot beverage. 
  • Prices: Dinners are $9 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. Sandwiches are $6. 
  • Options: Takeout is available. Call ahead 412-321-2499.
