In this disgusting, insulting election season, it is worthy of note and praise that there is one race in which both candidates have run positive campaigns in which the opponent is not smeared, not even mentioned.
Unlike the candidates in virtually every other contest, the State Auditor General contenders, Democrat Eugene DePasquale and Republican John Maher, can hold their heads high. Their actions should serve to embarrass the State Attorney General candidates particularly, who despite vying for this prominent position of trust, have slammed each other with insulting, condescending television spots.
It is sad that two candidates who comport themselves with honor must be lauded as unusual, but that is the case in this era of no respect for the voter and his or her intelligence. May future candidates follow the high bar set by Messrs. DePasquale and Maher in this race. Bravo!
