Traffic Blotter: Car Hits Boulder by Snow-Covered Heckert Road in Richland
Northern Regional Police Department provided the following information.
An 18-year-old Valencia woman hit a boulder about 3 a.m. Jan. 18 when she lost control of her Chevrolet Cobalt as she traveled on snow-covered Heckert Road in Richland Township, according to Northern Regional Police Department.
Akron Vantine and her three passengers were not injured in the accident that occurred near the Bakerstown Road intersection, police said.
Driver Runs Into Back of Car After Papers Drop on Floor
As a Cranberry man reached down to pick up paperwork that had fallen to the floor of his Jeep Grand Cherokee on the morning of Jan. 14, the traffic in front of him stopped and he ran into the back of another car, according to a Northern Regional Police report.
Michael Malak, 39, told police that traffic had started to move on eastbound Route 910 (Gibsonia Road) in Richland Township after the traffic light at the Route 8 intersection changed, police said.
Traffic stopped as he reached for the papers, however, and he ran into the back of a GMC Envoy driven by Denys Petrina, 34, of Gibsonia, the report states.
Lincoln, BMS Collide at Route 910-Pearce Mill Road in Pine
A Lincoln MKX making a left turn from Route 910 onto northbound Pearce Mill Road about 3 p.m. Jan. 12 ran into a BMW that was stopped at the traffic signal, police said.
Diane Payne, 65, of Wexford, told police she failed to see the BMW, the police report states.
Police identified the BMW driver as Janice Biggs, 61, of Gibsonia.
Vehicles Collide on Logan Road
A 17-year-old driver told police he was traveling too fast on Logan Road in Pine Township on Jan. 11 and struck another car as he negotiated a curve, according to a Northern Regional Police report.
Police said the teen crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Gary Hanson, 71, of Gibsonia.
McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority responded, but no one was transported to a hospital.
Rear-End Collision near Routes 8 and 910 Intersection in Richland
A Cheswick woman told police she ran into the back of a Subaru Forester after her foot slipped off the brake and she pushed the gas pedal about 8:45 a.m. Jan. 9 on Route 910 in Richland Township, police said.
Margaret Zourelias, 54, was driving a Ford F-150 in the area of Route 910 between Route 8 and Community Center Drive when the accident occurs, according to police.
Woman Drops Phone, Runs Off Road
As a Curtisville woman reached down to pick up the phone she dropped while driving on Warrendale Road in Pine Township, her Ford Explorer ran off the road, into the snow and cut across the backyard of a Honeybee Drive home before stopping about 10:15 p.m. Jan. 3, police said.
Tina Gizienski, 37, traveled about 100 to 150 feet off the road, struck two PennDOT signs, an embankment, landscaping stones, a small tree, a small snow bank and went over the the sidewalk, coming to rest on Rabold Drive property, according to the police report.
Northern Regional Police Officer Michael Dorsch was traveling on Warrendale Road near the intersection with Rabold Drive when he saw the Ford Explorer going through the snow and out of control off to the south side of the road, the report states.
Dorsch found Gizienski was shaken, but not injured, according to the report.
Cars Collide in Northtowne Square
Two cars collided at a three-way-stop intersection about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 3 in Northtowne Square in Richland Township.
Mark Abt, 53, of Gibsonia told police he stopped his 1992 Toyota Corolla at the stop sign and waited for another vehicle to clear the intersection, but did not see a 2011 Nissan Sentra approaching and struck it as he turned, police said.
Linda Schalin, 62, of Allison Park said she was traveling west when her Sentra was struck, according to police. The police report noted that westbound traffic does not stop at that intersection.
Ford Runs Into Back of Lincoln on Route 910 in Pine
A Ford Expedition ran into the back of a Lincoln MKS about 12:45 p.m. Jan. 2 on Route 910 (Wexford Road) in Pine Township, police said.
Both vehicles were eastbound when the Lincoln started to turn left onto Lyndhurst Circle, then stopped suddenly because of oncoming traffic, the police report states.
The Ford driver—Sharon R. Thompson, 48, of Mars—was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision, according to the report.
Police identified the Lincoln driver as Paul E. Hafner Jr., 18, of Valencia.
Collision at White Pine Drive and Route 910
As a Pontiac made a left onto Route 910 from White Pine Drive in Pine, it collided with a Chevrolet Colorado truck about 2:50 p.m. Jan. 2, police report.
The Pontiac driver—Jeanine Lehmeier, 55, of Pittsburgh—told police she was starting to turn onto Route 910 when she struck the side of the westbound truck, according to police.
Police identified the truck driver as Ronald Seevers, 53, of Ambridge.
Driver Hit From Behind After Stopping for Trash Can in Road
A Dodge Durango slid into the back of a Chevrolet Silverado that stopped about 5:50 p.m. Jan. 2 to avoid hitting a garbage can in the road in front of 200 Warrendale Road in Pine Township, police said.
Matthew Notariani, 19, of Freedom drove the Durango; Gregg Boehler, 52, of Gibsonia, was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, the police report states.
Driver Hits Utility Pole
A Valencia man pleaded guilty to three traffic-related charges after a 2:45 a.m. Jan. 1 accident in which he struck a pole at 11060 Babcock Boulevard in Pine Township and then left the scene, according to police and court records.
Matthew Mahon, 35, was charged with careless driving, involvement in an accident involving unattended property, and not immediately notifying police of an accident.
Northern Regional Police reported that Mahon crashed into a Duquesne Light pole, causing wires to spark and fall and also causing a tree to catch on fire.
When police arrived, the driver was not present. A check of the Honda Accord's license plate led police to the owner's Middlesex Township home, the report said.
Middlesex police found the owner at his home. When Northern Regional police spoke to Mahon by phone, he told the officer he left the scene because he did not think it was necessary to report the incident, the report said.
Honda Runs Off Snow-Covered Road, Hits Mailbox and Fence
A Honda Civic struck a mailbox at 796 Franklin Road and a fence at 800 Franklin Road in Pine Township after the driver lost control on the snow-covered road about 9 a.m. Dec. 31, a police report states.
Police identified the driver as Gabrielle Glowark, 19, of Beaver Falls.
