Do you support Gov. Tom Corbett's proposal to give Shell Oil a $1.65 billion tax break?
Gov. Tom Corbett wants to give Shell Oil tax credits worth $1.65 billion over 25 years so the company will build a refinery in western Pennsylvania to capitalize on the Marcellus Shale natural gas boom, according to Businessweek.
Corbett says the deal could help reinvigorate manufacturing in Pennsylvania and create jobs.
Critics say Shell would probably bring its business to the state without the tax incentives. Corbett has also been criticized for cutting social services and school funding.
Shell is the world's second largest company by revenue and made profits of $31 billion last year.

This is another foul example of republicans covering their behinds by calling this a job creation action instead of what it is: a giveaway to their big bribers (they call the bribes 'campaign contributions' but that is just their cover up of their corruption in taking them. Meantime, they cut education, health, support for the aged, and anything for anyone else who doesn't pay into their coffers.

While Corbett guts public education in PA he shows his true colors by, once again, catering to big business. It really makes me shake my head in surprise: Who voted for this man and what do they stand for in their personal lives?

The current budget cuts are necessary based on years of overspending without accountability as if the State budget was an all-you-can-eat-buffet. Mr. Rendell was reckless and now austerity is necessary because you can't get blood from a turnip! As far as the popular mantra of "oil is bad" or "business is bad" or whatever you think is 'bad' about Shell Oil... jobs brings income, income brings taxes, taxes will restore your 'have-come-to-rely-on" services. It's that simple. No jobs, no income, no taxes, no services. Take your pick, but you can't play from both ends of the argument and portray credibility.

Corbett is the only governor in a LONG time with the courage to do what it takes to get PA back on track. And JOBS will get us there and that is what Shell brings to the table. And you would be foolish to believe that they would still come here without incentive. And would you really want to leave that up to chance? PA better be careful here because there is a lot at stake.
And Stacy-I just want to tell you that it is insulting for you to correlate politics to what I stand for in my personal life. I hold extremely different political views than several friends but I would NEVER judge their personal values because of it and nor would they judge mine And you know what-the very politicians that you hate do not place moral judgment on the other side of the aisle at the end of the day either. (wellmost do not)

Sorry you feel insulted but how you vote and who you support does say what you stand for in your personal life. Honestly, I find it interesting that you seem so upset by that and I wonder if maybe you are not completely comfortable with what you may be in favor of. I don't like what Corbett is doing to education in PA and I do not like how he seems hell-bent on catering to big business. That does not mean I do not like large corporations; it does mean that catering to their greed with taxes (or lack of) is, in my opinion, detrimental to the tax base of the state at large. At the end of the day we all get to have our opinions. What you may see as courage I may see as catering.
