Police Seek Information About Assault on Jogger in North Park

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Allegheny County Police at (412) 473-1251 or 911.

 

Allegheny County Police are seeking information about an assault on a female jogger in North Park about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The incident was reported on Lake Shore Drive in the vicinity of J.C. Stone Field in North Park, police said.  

"The report is of a young female jogging in the area when an unknown assailant put a bag over her head and carried her a short distance into a wooded area where she was able to get free and flee," according to a statement from Allegheny County Police.

Anyone with information or if anyone was in the area at the time of the incident is encouraged to contact Allegheny County Police at (412) 473-1251 or 911.

"The public is advised that there is no need to be alarmed, but as always should be aware of your surroundings and be assured there are police in and around the parks on a 24-hour basis, according to the statement.

no need to be alarmed? really-they have no idea who is responsible for this. would you send your child there for a run?

Before I would send my child there for a run, I would caution them to stay on the main walking/bike lanes around the lake and the pool area - especially if they are going it alone. You can never be too cautious these days.

McCandless Police hide everything from the public. No crime in McCandless? Ummm I don't think so, it's just not put out there. Hopefully the NA patch will do some good and inform the public of what does go on in that community.

Susan...did you even read the article? The Allegheny County Police have jurisdiction over this case because it occurred in the park. It does not have anything to do with the McCandless Police.

Of course I read the article. It doesn't matter if Allegheny County has jurisdiction or not, McCandless hides all of the crime in that township. Believe it or not, it's true.

Has anything more been reported about this crime. I walk in the park often in the evening and my young daughter runs most nights....Not be afraid?? I havent been back since this happened and neither has my daughter.
