Planning to Vote in the Primary Election? Be Sure You've Registered
Voters who plan to turn out for candidates in Pennsylvania's primary election April 24 have less than a week left to register.
Pennsylvania voters who plan to vote in the upcoming primary election April 24 must be registered with their county elections bureau by Monday, March 26.
Registered voters who have moved or changed their name or party affiliation also must notify their local elections bureau or office by Monday, March 26, according to the Allegheny County Elections Division. Voters must be registered as a member of a political party in order to vote in the party’s primary election.
In order to register, voters must be 18 or older on the day of the primary election and U.S. citizens for at least one month prior to the election. Voters also must be residents of the districts in which they plan to vote for at least 30 days prior to the election.
Allegheny County residents who wish to register to vote may apply in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Office of the Registration Commission, Room 609 in the County Office Building, 542 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh. The Elections Division will remain open until 5 p.m. March 26 to accept hand-delivered registration forms.
Would-be voters also may register and may change their names, addresses or party affiliation using mail. These forms are available at armed service recruitment centers, Area Agencies on Aging, U.S. Postal Service facilities and state, county and municipal government offices.
Registration-by-mail forms must be postmarked no later than March 26 to be processed for the April 24 primary. Forms may also be obtained by visiting www.votespa.com and following the quick link to “Register to Vote.”
When approved, voters will receive an identification card showing municipality, ward and/or election district, and assigned polling place. The card may be required to vote at the polling place.
