Pine Township Giant Eagle to Expand to Market District Status

Pine supervisors approve expansion of Village at Pine store.

The Giant Eagle in Pine Township is expanding to Market District status.

The township's Board of Supervisors approved expansion plans this week for the Giant Eagle in the Village of Pine near the intersection of Routes 19 and 910.

Plans include a small patio addition and outdoor seating, as well as expansion of the prepared-food sections.

Dick Roberts of Roberts Communications says it's much too early in the process to specify exact conversion plans or dates, but the store does tentatively plan to include elements of other popular Giant Eagle supermarkets, such as the focus on restaurant-quality foods and a health/beauty/wellness department that has received extremely positive customer feedback.

The difference between a Market District Giant Eagle and a Giant Eagle supermarket is mainly in variety and size, with Market District stores tending to be much larger, having a more extensive prepared-foods selection and restaurant-style areas with high-quality food offerings.

"One of the things that makes a Market District store unique is you can do your everyday shopping and have that selection, while having the additional selection they stock in Market District," says Roberts.

The Pine Township Giant Eagle is a relatively new store. It opened in February 2008 and was the first store to sport the new exterior façade that is now the standard exterior on new stores, according to Roberts.
