The International Thespian Society at Pine-Richland High School is performing The Giver tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. under the direction of teacher John Dolphin.

Tickets are $7 at the door at the high school.

The Giver is based on Lois Lowry’s Newbery-Award-winning book about a utopia in which there is no pain and no joy. The characters in the story are assigned their roles in society when they are 12 years old.

When Jonas turns 12, he is assigned to be the Receiver of Memories. He works with the Giver, who maintains memories of the world as it once existed—with joy, love, violence and fear.

My daughter's Language Arts class is finishing up reading The Giver, and her teacher told them of the event at Pine Richland, so we are planning on attending this evening, and we are coming from the Baldwin-Whitehall School District area. Since it is a distance to get there, we hope there will be seats still available for purchase at the door.
