Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent Mary Bucci Receives 3 Percent Pay Raise

After voting in October not to renew Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci's contract when it expires, the Pine-Richland School Board voted unanimously Monday to give her a 3 percent pay increase—boosting her annual salary to $139,256 for the 2012-13 school year.
The increase comes more than four months into the school district's fiscal year because the board was waiting for Bucci's evaluation to be completed, board Secretary Tara Bennett said.
The pay increase is retroactive to July 1, the beginning of the school district's fiscal year. Her contract ends June 30.
Bucci voluntarily declined a pay increase for the 2011-12 school year as the district struggled with budget cuts.
During Monday's meeting, School Board President Stephen Hawbaker said the board has discussed the superintendent search in executive sessions.
Bennett said the board has discussed the process of selecting a new superintendent but has not started its search.

This is very confusing. The board votes not to renew her contract but now they approve a pay raise??? I don't understand the mixed messages from our school board.
Bucci going away is certainly in the best interest of our children.

Politics can be a cruel taskmaster. Maybe the board is trying to put their feelings on hold and respond to Dr. Bucci with a little more 'grace' and time that is needed to resolve the issue(s). I don't think it is a bad thing they are doing...

Really? You would have to see her contract. I am sure the contract has some sort of clause that after the evaluation is complete Dr Bucci is entitled to a pay increase. A pay increase has nothing to do with a contractual renewal. It looks like the Board wants to change direction of the district. Budgets cuts are always hard. I am sure the Board made their decision being well informed, unlike some of the decisions that have been made in the past 3 years.
