The Pine-Richland girls field hockey team decided to "Go Pink" this week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sophomore Paige Haenig and fellow players wore pink socks, pink head gear and played with a pink ball.

Chanting “Save the ta-ta’s,” Pine-Richland’s girls varsity field hockey team honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month before it took the field in a contest against the Hempfield Lady Spartans.

The Lady Rams increased awareness and raised money for the event by conducting pledges for each goal scored, holding a 50/50 raffle and bake sales, and selling wristbands and pink T-shirts.

Proceeds will be donated to Play 4 the Cure, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society.

The Lady Rams honored all women fighting cancer and paid tribute to those women who have lost their battle by pausing for a moment of silence.

The varsity team won Tuesday’s contest against Hempfield, 10-0, as did the junior varsity team earlier in the evening by the same score.

The varsity field hockey team’s next game will be at Penn-Trafford at 4:15 p.m. Oct 11; junior varsity plays at 3 p.m.

The team plays Greater Latrobe at 7:30 p.m., with JV playing at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Pine-Richland Stadium.

UPDATE: The final home game of the season is scheduled against North Allegheny at 8 p.m. Oct. 19, with JV playing at 6:30 p.m.
