Labor Day Weekend: Where To Go, What To Do, What's Closed

Three-day weekend offers football game, car cruise, runs/walks and a concert.

 

Perhaps the three-day Labor Day weekend is your time to hang out at home and grill. But if it is not and you are looking for things to do, here are a few suggestions for happenings in and near the Pine-Richland community.

 

Friday, Sept. 2

5:30-9:30 p.m. Check out cool automobiles at Starlite Car Cruise at North Way Christian Community, 12121 Perry Highway, Wexford. This is the final car cruise for the summer. About 1,000 cars fill North Way's parking lot - everything from classics to street rods to motorcycles. 

7:30 p.m. Get ready for some Pine-Richland football as the Rams football team takes on Mt. Lebanon at PR Stadium

 

Saturday, Sept. 3

9 a.m. Cheer on the participants in the AAFD Herb Kaufman Memorial 5K Run/Walk. The event starts and ends at Adams Township Community Park in Mars. It is a major fundraiser for the Adams Area Fire District.

Closed - Northern Tier Regional Library, Pine-Richland Youth Center.

 

Sunday, Sept. 4

9 a.m. The Stepping Stones Children's Center's 5K Race/FunWalk starts at the North Park Boathouse. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Come out to participate or cheer on the runners/walkers.

10 a.m. Wexford Community Presbyterian Church is holding its annual outdoor service, featuring contemporary music and worship in a relaxed setting. Chairs will be provided. If you prefer lying on the ground, bring a blanket.

5 p.m. The 12th Annual Allegheny County Musical Festival takes place at Hartwood Acres. The music kicks off with City Dwelling Nature Seekers and Crossing Boundaries performing. Rusted Root takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. A $20 per car donation will benefit the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

Monday, Sept. 5

4-8 p.m. Labor Day Doggy Dip at Dormont Pool. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are invited to swim. The $25 registration fee benefits the Dormont Pool and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Closed -- Pine Community Center, Pine Township offices, Richland Township offices, Richland Township Water AuthorityNorthern Tier Regional Library, Pine-Richland Youth CenterPine-Richland schools, Vogel Disposal Service -- your garbage and recycling will be picked up one day later than your scheduled day.

Federal, state and county offices are closed too, as well as banks and various other businesses.
