Jackie Evancho to Film Second 'Great Performances' Special for PBS

Show at historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles will focus on her upcoming movie-themed CD.

Singing star Jackie Evancho—who at age 12 already has a PBS special under her belt—is set to film a new show.

"The PBS special is another Great Performances special that will support Jackie’s upcoming movie-themed CD and is being filmed at the historic Orpheum Theater in LA," Jackie's dad, Mike Evancho, wrote in an email.

The show will be filmed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, in Los Angeles. Tickets go on sale to the public today (Saturday).

The show will begin airing in time for PBS stations' August pledge drives, Mike Evancho said. The Richland Township star's first Great Performances special often is used in PBS pledge drives.

Jackie currently is recording the CD, which will be released in September.

Her first Great Performances special Jackie Evancho: Dream With Me in Concert, was broadcast on PBS in June 2011 to celebrate the release of her first full-length solo album.

Taped at Sarasota’s Ringling Museum of Art, the "Great Performances" concert was co-hosted by Grammy Award-winning David Foster, who produced the "Dream With Me" album.

This June's performance will be at a theater with a storied past.

"Since its February 15, 1926 opening, the Orpheum has played host to some of the most venerable names in show business—from burlesque queen Sally Rand, a young Judy Garland (as Francis Gumm) and comedian Jack Benny, to jazz greats like Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington," the theater's website states.

"The 1960s brought a completely new dimension to the theater—"rock and roll"—with performers such as Little Richard, Aretha Franklin and Little Stevie Wonder.

"In more recent years, television, film and music video stars have added another new feature to the theater’s history—location filming," the website continues. "Today, the Orpheum continues to build on its entertainment industry memories and stands ready once again to welcome live performance and many other special events to its legendary stage."

Thanks, Cindy, once again for a great article about Jackie's newest adventure. I'm exhausted just reading about everything she's doing! It's amazing to watch the list of achievements just get longer and longer! There seems to be no end to her metdoric rise to stardom and yet she remains a very humble person.

I certainly appreciate all you do to keep us up to date.

A meteorite has landed upon the earth and scattered stardust all over the planet I am sure. Everybody's talking about it and I have bought a ticket to see it in Alpharetta, Ga. It's like the Olympic Flame, being carried everywhere. The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles is scheduled to touch it, even St. Petersburg, Russia wants to display it. I hear that if you listen real quietly when you are close to it you can hear the most beautiful music you have ever heard. It's magic... It transports you to a place of numinous delight and happiness I understand. -- I can't wait.

Jackie is beyond a super talented prodigy. She represents the vanguard of a new development in our species. Her voice along with her extraordinary persona are transforming all her see and experience her. Gifted to help us each see beyond the mundane and dangerous everyday activities of the world as it is to what a new world can be if we move past where are and into a new state of consciousness. Jackie, I believe, is among the first of many who are being sent by God to move us forward in our evolution. I've watched this extraordinary young girl from her time on AGT to seeing her live and am convinced she is all that I described and so much more. We are all so privileged to be alive during this time. Thanks to Jackie's parents and all those whove helped Jackie into and through this amazing process. And most of all, thank you Jackie for choosing to do this for the betterment of us all. :-)

Steven, what is there left to say that hasn't already been said. Totally agree. The world eagerly awaits her new CD and then her new DVD of her PBS Special to be filmed shortly in L.A. I'm sure we, and the rest of the world, are discovering that Jackie Evancho has no equeal. Once in a lifetime are we priviledged to witness somebody of her greatness. She has already broken records, been places very few entertainers have ventured into and is surely destined to rewrite the history books as far as human achievment is concerened. And, she's only 12. I hope they have plenty of pages in the books..............*******

After Jackie's First PBS Special I don't think there was ant doubt about there being another one. She made PBS a ton of money and will do it again with this one. The PBS Special is just one event in what is shaping up to be a most amazing year. She is doing 2 concerts before the PBS Special then off to Russia to sing wit two other great opera singers. Stay tuned more to come. I am getting dizzy.

Thank you so much for this article Cindy. You are a real gem.

I was more than pleased when I read the Orpheum played host to the young Judy Garland. Although I'm sure the song list is set, it would be a wonderful tribute if Jackie could sing one of Judy's songs (I'm partial to "Over the Rainbow"). There are similarities between the two, one of them being that both are known for having grown-up voices coming out of little girl bodies. Also, June 10, 2012 would have been Judy's 90th birthday.
