Cranberry Police and fire crews were called to the scene of a one-car crash Friday that sent four teenagers to the hospital.

Cpl. William Ahlgren said the teens, who were not identified, were heading south on Route 19 at about 8 p.m. when the female driver lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason near the Manheim Auto Auction in Cranberry.

The red Chevrolet Cavalier went up an embankment before striking a pole and a wire fence in front of the auction.

All four teens were taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Ahlgren did not know the extent of their injuries.

He said the teens, two boys and two girls, either extricated themselves or were helped from the vehicle.

“Everyone was able to get out of the car or was assisted out of the car,” he said.

Ahlgren said he believes all four juveniles were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, he said.

Two southbound lanes of traffic were shut down for at least an hour Friday as crews cleared the scene. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
